BG Racing – Update 24-03-22
Back from what was a very enjoyable but very unprofitable week at Cheltenham! I read an interesting article by Chris Cook in the Racing Post yesterday who published some data showing that the increasing stranglehold of the top trainers on the Cheltenham races is leading to a massive increase in shorter priced winners. Given that I bet mainly at each-way odds, that ties in with my lack of success. In recent years, I would be disappointed if I did not have three or four winners at odds of 10-1 or greater at Cheltenham but this time I did not find one such winner all week, mainly because there were not many of them! This is probably a trend I need to take on board next year.
I was hoping that we would all be back on the racecourse next week, but Far Too Beautiful has had a minor setback and we will need to wait a couple of weeks to see her race. More on that below:
Below I have covered:
1 – Dynamic Kate
2 – Far Too Beautiful
3 – Inside The Rails
4 – Runners From Our Stables

Kate is still fine and continuing to build up her work. I will try to get down to see her again in the next couple of weeks but I spoke to Neil about her at the weekend and he confirmed that he is very happy with her and the progress she is making. She is not yet doing fast work, but she seems to be coping fine with a steadily increasing workload and we are all on track with her.
I do have shares of Kate available to purchase and these run for the period to 31st October 2022. They are priced at £310 for a 1% share with discounted rates for 5% and 10% purchases.
She has been in the first four in all four of her recent races and she will hopefully pick up where she left off when she gets back on the racecourse in the coming weeks.
I was up at the yard at Epsom early this week and saw Far Too Beautiful doing a canter, but the following day, she worked very poorly and started coughing on her way back to the yard.
Michael feels that this is nothing serious, but he thinks that she has picked up a bug and we decided to give her some antibiotics which will keep her off the racecourse for a couple of weeks and obviously ruins our plan to run her at Kempton next week!
On the flip side, we were running her there only because she was ready to run and there was a lack of suitable turf races before the middle of April, so we can now just go straight to a turf run as there are a couple of options for her in April.
I have shares available at a cost of £273 per 1% share covering the period to 31st December 2022. Please contact me via the contact page if you would like more information.
We are back recording Inside The Rails next week to launch on 1st April. All previous episodes can be downloaded at https://podfollow.com/inside-the-rails. Please recommend the podcast to anyone you know that might be interested!
There were no runners from our yards on Sunday 13th March. On Monday 14th, Super Duper Sam was a bit disappointing for Neil and was well beaten. The old boy Kansas City Chief rolled back the years again though and won another race at Plumpton. He led, jumped really well and never looked like being caught and earned a place in the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham later in the week. Neil had three other runners, at Taunton, where Castle Quarter and Sevenofus were unplaced and at Wolverhampton where Kahina Rules was also unplaced.
After no runners from the yards on Tuesday and Wednesday, Neil was back in action on Thursday at Cheltenham where Kansas City Chief had a great spin around, leading the field for most of the race, but just tiring turning for home to drop back through the field and Chinwag settled in rear and jumped well for the most part but they always looked to be going too fast for him and he was unable to land a blow.
On Friday, Neil’s Blumen Glory ran at Doncaster but was unplaced. The better runs came from unexpected quarters. Although Norman Kindhu was unplaced at Fakenham, Doncester De Pretot went better than expected to finish 2nd at 50-1 and back at Doncaster, Barnards Green showed much-improved form to also be placed at a big price. Michael had his only runner of the week when Rules of Order travelled well into the race but failed to pick up in the home straight and was unplaced at Wolverhampton.
It all went wrong for Neil on Saturday! Garincha ducked violently to his right on the first circuit approaching the first flight and the jockey did well to straighten him up, but he did it again at exactly the same point next time around and this time unseated his rider. Things were no better later on the card when Concrete King fell when holding every chance and Neil’s third runner, Brief Times at Kempton, also did not get the smoothest passage before finishing unplaced.
After no Sunday runners, Irish Odyssey was unable to make the frame at Southwell for Neil on Monday and Jump Over The Moon was also unplaced at the same course with Blakey Bear suffering the same result at Wincanton.
