Tony, Fred, Sam and Johan were at Lingfield for Silver Imperial’s first handicap run and they reported an enjoyable evening despite the result.  Phil was not able to attend, hence no photos and video from the track are available.

Silver Imperial was fine in the preliminaries and very professional going down.  After backing away once, she went into the stalls fine and it was probably her best start yet jumping well.  With a sight of the front she was pulling hard and Joe Bradnam our jockey had to pull her back to settle her in behind the lead, but she got settled and he had her perfectly positioned for most of the race. She looked like she could make a run down the outside down the hill, but was wide into the home straight and was not able to quicken on the run-in dropping back to pass the post last.

Joe reported that she had settled well and run all the way to the line, but she had not been able to quicken and he indicated that he would not be afraid to try her over even further.

Michael suggested that it might be worth letting Silver Imperial go forward and lead or at least run upsides to force a more consistent pace which would put less pressure on her finishing kick in a future run.
