The Way You Dance’s second run or BG Racing came at a Friday night fixture at Bath. A large group of 20 from the partnership were on hand to see if TWYD could replicate his all weather form back on the grass.
Conditions were less than ideal with heavy rain rendering the ground softer than ideal, but since we want to go hurdling, we knew that The Way You Dance would need to encounter this type of group at some point and were hopeful that he would handle it OK.
Bath racecourse is half way through a major refurbishment and the owners and trainers facilities were decent enough with free tea and coffee and fish and chips for all attending.
A shower midway through the evening softened the ground still further and it was fair to say that this was the main worry as everything pointing to a big run if the ground was not an obstacle.
Laim Keniry was out jockey again and it was agreed that he would ride similarly to at Wolverhampton, following the pace and making his run late. In the gathering gloom, Liam and The Way You Dance made their way to the start.
Out of the stalls and Liam settled exactly where he wanted to in 4th place and looking to be going comfortably, he remained in perfect position turning for home, but here it became clear that we were not going to be challenging as TWYD simply never picked up and plugged on well beaten.
Back in the unsaddling enclosure it was clear that The Way You Dance had not had a tough race and he was not blowing hard. Liam reported that he had hated the ground and that he had known that it was unlucky to be his night very early on in the race. This did call into question our plan to go hurdling, but Neil felt that this was still a good idea especially when the ground starts to dry out.
A disappointing result, but here’s hoping we can bounce back next time.
At Conkwell the morning after the race, TWYD was absolutely fine and we now wait for some drying conditions.
