BG Racing – Update 04-03-22
A bit late this week and given the time of year and that neither horse is running yet, I will probably skip this weekend’s update and produce another one just before Cheltenham.
Things are moving forward though and I have some running plan dates for Far Too Beautiful. Dynamic Kate will be a bit further away from a run as she has only just started cantering.
Both the stables are in decent form and having winners, so there is plenty to look forward to.
The syndicates showcase day at Warwick last Friday went very well. We had loads of conversations with people and handed out a lot of brochures etc which was great. I was lucky to have the support of several shareholders on the day and it makes a big difference when the person telling people what fun it is, is a customer rather than an employee!
Below I will cover:
1 – Social Events
2 – Dynamic Kate
3 – Far Too Beautiful
4 – Inside The Rails
5 – Runners From Our Stables
If this update gets you interested in ownership, then I would love to hear from you. Click here for details of shareholder benefits and information on how to get involved.
Our Cheltenham Preview Shareholder Zoom is due to take place next week on the evening of Thursday 10th March 2022, where I will run through the big races on each day of the festival and will let everyone provide their best bets for the meeting. I will also run a tipping competition.
The Racehorse Syndicates Association Golf Day is up in Wolverhampton on 12th May. BG Racing has a full team signed up for this.
Events like these are all part of the shareholder experience which is more than just going to the races with a runner.
I enjoyed a nice morning at the stables last week with four shareholders. The weather was not kind to us in that when Dynamic Kate went out to exercise, it got very grey and started raining but that did not dampen our enthusiasm!
This was the first week that Kate had been out of the yard and she only did one very steady canter up the hill gallop, but she seemed full of beans and Neil Mulholland is very happy with her.
She has definitely grown since the autumn and Neil feels that the time off has really benefitted her physically. Onwards and upwards as far as she is concerned.
I do have shares of Kate available to purchase and these run for the period to 31st October 2022. They are priced at £310 for a 1% share with discounted rates for 5% and 10% purchases.
She has been in the first four in all four of her recent races and she will hopefully pick up where she left off when she gets back on the racecourse in the Spring.
I was up at Michael Attwater’s yard on Tuesday (providing IT support rather than watching the horses!), but I called in on Far Too Beautiful in the stable. She had a check over from the chiropractor while I was there and all is going very well.
We had a quick look through the programme book and somewhat annoyingly, the first suitable turf races for her are not until the 14th April at Bath or the 20th April at Salisbury. We pencilled these in, but Michael subsequently came back to me to say that Far Too Beautiful is very well and it seems a shame to wait so long before her first run.
After chatting this through, we have decided that if all goes well between now and then, that we will give her a “prep run” on the all-weather, probably at Kempton on 30th March. This will get her spot-on race fitness-wise for her turf debut and if she was to run well, then we would know that last season’s poor all-weather performances were not down to the surface.
I have shares available at a cost of £273 per 1% share covering the period to 31st December 2022. Please contact me via the contact page if you would like more information.
We recorded Inside The Rails last week and launched the episode on the 1st March. David Armstrong from the Racecourse Association is our guest this month and I enjoyed chatting to him. All episodes can be downloaded at https://podfollow.com/inside-the-rails and if you can recommend the podcast to friends that may be interested, that would be really appreciated!
We had no runners from our yards last Monday or Tuesday and the results were not what Neil was hoping for on Wednesday when he had three fancied runners. Vis A Vis never really landed a blow at Newcastle and then Lord Accord came to challenge but made a mistake which set him back a little and he ended up last of the three runners. Chirico Vallis ran a nice race and led for most of it and he rallied well when headed in the home straight. He ended up 3rd, losing the battle for 2nd on the run-in.
There were no runners on Thursday and on Friday, Miss Shirley ran well for Michael and only just missed making the frame. Rules of Order was a little further back, but they were both big prices and it was further indication that Michael’s horses seemed to be running well.
Mary of Modena was unplaced for him on Saturday, but My Joker held on for a 3rd place finish. For Neil, Mothill went better than expected and finished 2nd but Neil’s other runner, Solwara One, was unplaced.
Neil had a winner on Sunday though. He went to Fontwell where Concrete King was 2nd and Mont Saint Vincent was 3rd, whilst I headed to Hereford where the Neil Mulholland Racing Club horse, La Cavsa Nostra, won on his 2nd start back from a long break. Unfortunately, his other runner, Milanese Rose made a couple of jumping errors and was unable to get competitive.
Neil followed up on Monday when after Malinas Island was 2nd and Rock on Rita was 3rd at Plumpton, debutant Girlofmydreams kept on well to win the closing bumper.
After no Tuesday runners, it was Michael who had a winner when at Lingfield, Nordic Glory won despite having pulled for his head for the first three furlongs. It was great to see another winner for yard and I am sure Michael was not too disappointed when Delagate The Lady was unplaced later on. Neil’s runner Watergrange Jack was 4th at Wincanton.
