BG Racing – Update 06-07-26
Another month goes by. We had a disappointing run from Twist Of Fatecatch, when he did not settle in a slowly run race. We have options for him in the next couple of weeks, and these are outlined below.
I mentioned a possible new horse for BG Racing last time. I did not proceed with that one, but I have another one to tell you about below.
Shortly after the last update, however, I got some terrible news regarding Bella Cavalla, our former horse. Please see below.
I am busy arranging a stable visit for shareholders to Neil Mulholland’s stable, and I may also have a BG Racing team in an upcoming golf day.
Twist Of Fatecatch ran on 13th June at Uttoxeter. He started favourite, and hopes were high for a win. Sadly, things did not go to plan. It was a slow pace, and TOF was fighting jockey Harry Cobden to be allowed to go faster for about two miles. He is more of a stayer than a speedster, so might have been outpaced when they sprinted for home, even if he had settled well, but having used so much energy in his struggles earlier in the race, Twist Of Fatecatch was unable to get into the race late on.
He is fine since the race, and we decided to drop him back half a mile in the hope that he will settle better with the quicker pace that a shorter race provides. There was an option for him at Worcester on Friday (10th July), but with more very hot weather forecast this week, we decided to make things a bit more clear-cut and not enter that race.
There are three possible targets for him. The first is at Worcester on Thursday 16th July (evening racing). Then there is one at Market Rasen on Saturday 18th and a third at Worcester on Wednesday 22nd July.
We are nearly two weeks out from any of the races, so we will look next weekend and try to identify a preferred option then.
Last update, I told you of my interest in a hurdler that I had an option to buy 50% of.
I had some interest, but ultimately, I decided not to proceed.
I do have an option on the flat, however, which I am currently looking at. This would be a two-year-old filly who would run in the coming weeks.
We would be buying 50% of her if we proceed, and the trainer would own the other half.
I hope to see her this week and then will crunch the numbers to produce a share price. Watch this space!
Shortly after my last update, I received the worst possible news in respect of Bella Cavalla (our former horse who retired from racing early in 2025). I mentioned last time that she had recently won a prize for dressage, but a couple of weeks later, her new owner got in touch and was obviously very emotional when she explained that Bella had developed some lumps on her neck and that the vet had been concerned that they might be serious and had sent some tests for analysis.
She got back in touch several days later to say that the vet’s concerns had proved to be accurate and the lumps were tumours.
Whilst Bella was yet to show any discomfort, unfortunately, the vet advised that this was inevitable within a few days, and the condition was inoperable. Sadly, therefore, Bella had to be euthanised.
We are all really sorry to hear this news and have passed on our best wishes to her owner, who was also very upset to lose her.
