BG Racing – Update 06-09-22
What a run of form Dynamic Kate is in right now! We were planning to give her a break but she came out of her Worcester race well and trainer, Neil Mulholland, wanted to look at a race at Fontwell on Sunday. He decided on Friday that she was looking well at home and the race looked ordinary, so we decided to run and suddenly we had a horse that had won twice in three weeks! She will go up in the handicap again, so Neil is already considering a possible option next Monday at Worcester where she would avoid a penalty again but we will see how she is this week.
I am spending most of this week at the BMW PGA Golf at Wentworth aside from Friday when I am down at Neil’s golf day.
Below I have covered:
1 – Dynamic Kate
2 – Far Too Beautiful
3 – Windsor Ownership Day
4 – Inside The Rails
5 – Runners From Our Stables

Dynamic Kate went up 12lbs after her Fontwell win, was dropped 3lb after her 2nd place at Worcester, but will now go up even more now after a great win at Fontwell again on Sunday. She was entitled to win and went off at 2-5 favourite but the race still needs to be won and she travelled well on the way to recording a six-length success. If she ran at Worcester next Monday she would do so off her current mark with no penalty, so she will be entered there, but Neil will not run her if he is not 100% happy with her.
Although I have not managed to process the prizemoney yet (it takes a couple of days to come through), it is three prize pickups inside three weeks for Dynamic Kate shareholders who are being rewarded for their patience over the last 18 months.
At the moment, I am not sure whether her owner, Aidan, will be happy for us to have her for another year or whether he will want to breed from her. He will make a decision on that in the coming weeks but we have her at least until the 31st October and will try to take advantage of any small fields and decent ground that we can find whenever Kate is 100% between now and then.
Far Too Beautiful is back working well and trainer, Michael Attwater, feels that she is definitely seeming to prefer the softer of the two all-weather gallops on Epsom Downs. He is keeping her to that one for now and she is back pleasing her riders. We did consider entering a race at Ffos Las this Saturday, but Michael thinks that this would probably be a week earlier than ideal. We considered it anyway given that there is little for her in the week to 10 days that follow that race, but we want to give her every chance of showing us some improvement next race and so did not want to send her racing when she is underprepared. It is frustrating but we will have to stay patient for a couple more weeks.
Alongside her flat work, Michael is starting her jumping education and we will try to ensure that we get some racing over hurdles as well as on the flat in the coming weeks.
I attended the Racing League meeting at Windsor last Thursday with a BG Racing stand in the syndicate village and several BG Racing shareholders came along.
My Inside The Rails co-host, Simon, and I were interviewed in the winners’ enclosure by Frankie Foster to promote the podcast and then late in the evening, Vanessa Ryall from Sky Sports Racing came by, stuck a microphone under my nose and gave me a free two minutes to promote BG Racing on TV, so it was definitely worth going!
The latest Inside The Rails with William Derby the Clerk of the Course and CEO at York Racecourse is available on all podcast platforms now. Please do give us a listen or tell your friends!
Bear To Dream was unplaced at Epsom for Michael last Tuesday, but a good week for Neil got underway when Ragamuffin followed up unplaced efforts from Quarter Blue at Chepstow and Castle Quarter at Newton Abbot, with a win at the Devon track.
There was no success for Michael at Lingfield on Wednesday when Cappananty Con, Emulation and Gavlar were all out of the places, but Neil had winner number two when Glajou won at Worcester. Inspector Lynley was unplaced but Jaunty Soria was 2nd on another good day for Neil’s runners.
Michael’s Ajrad was unplaced on Thursday and there were no runners on Friday or Saturday.
Neil made it a period with four winners from eight runners on Sunday. Dynamic Kate was first up at Fontwell, winning the opener and then Girlofmydreams ran on gamely despite hanging right on the run-in, finding the nearside rail and getting up to win.
