BG Racing – Update 06-11-23

Introduction

Another two-week gap since the last update.  Despite the lack of runners, it has still been a busy time for me and there is plenty of information to pass on.

Dynamic Kate

We decided to extend our ownership of Dynamic Kate for a couple of weeks into November to try to get one more run from her.  The first issue we had was a lack of suitable races at the start of the month, but she would not have run anyway due to the soft ground!

The next options for her are at Lingfield on the 14th or Market Rasen on the 16th and if the ground does not come right for her in either of those, then we may need to call it quits as search for good ground after mid-November will be tricky.

Bella Cavalla

Bella Cavalla continues to get ready for her first run at Neil Mulholland’s yard and Neil has been delighted with her progress.

Neil’s positivity about Bella Cavalla is very encouraging and he has indicated that he would like to start Bella off in a national hunt flat race.

She is not far away now, so plenty to look forward to.  As mentioned here in the past, I have shares available with 2% for £750.  Please get in touch if you are interested.

Stryder

Stryder is coming on well.  His breathing operation wound has healed well and he should be back doing a bit more this coming week.

This type of operation usually delivers some significant improvement once the horse realizes that he can breathe better.  He may need to build his confidence, in his next race but after that, hopefully, his form will take a good step forward.

Hopefully, he will be back racing in three or four weeks and we can crack on from there.

Current shareholding costs are £830 for 2%, £1925 for 5% and £3550 for 10% and cover a year to 31st August 2024.  Installment payments are fine, so people can pay monthly if this suits them better.

Ascot Syndicate Showcase

On Friday 24th and Saturday 25th November there is a two-day shared ownership event at Ascot races.  I will be operating the BG Racing trade stand again, hopefully, accompanied by a couple of shareholders.

If you are at the races, please stop by and see us!

Affordability Checks Petition

You may be aware that there is currently a gambling commission consultation ongoing around the introduction of affordability checks.  What started out with the best of intentions try to help people who have gambling problems, the proposals pose a massive threat to horse racing as they are going to impact thousands of people who bet regularly but do not have any problem gambling traits.  There are other solutions that could be implemented to deliver the objective without catching thousands of innocent punters in the net.

The proposed checks are already creeping in and I have personally been impacted by them despite carrying out my betting in a highly structured and disciplined manner.  The racing industry’s income could be hugely impacted by the legislated implementation of these checks and racing has launched a petition that has already accumulated over 50,000 signatures and a parliamentary debate is triggered if it reaches 100,000.  It takes literally seconds to sign the petition digitally and I would urge you all to do so if you have not already.

Inside The Rails

The latest episode of the Inside The Rails podcast was launched on 1st November and features an interview with jockey Jack Quinlan.

Winners From Our Stables

A quiet time in terms of success for both our trainers in the last two weeks.

Neil Mulholland had a technical winner when Any News won through walkover back on Wednesday 18th October, but he got a proper win at Exeter on the 24th of October.

Michael Attwater had 2nd place finishes from Mary of Modena on the 19th of October and Nordic Glory on the 24th of October but the latter delivered a win for him just three days later on the 27th.

Get Involved

If you are interested in finding out more about racehorse ownership, then please get in touch as I would be delighted to discuss things with you.

Bella Cavalla is £750 for a 2% shareholding including all costs to 30th June 2024 and Stryder is £830 for 2% covering the period to 31st August 2024.  Standing order payments can be made to spread the cost and shareholders get regular email updates along with the chance to come to the stables with me as well as to the races. There are also shareholder social events during the year.
