BG Racing – Update 10-02-24
The last couple of weeks have seen Bella Cavalla’s racecourse debut which took place the same day as our social at Neil’s stables. That went very well with Neil providing a tour and a real insight into training. Since then there has been plenty going on behind the scenes.
I do not have confirmed running plans for Stryder or Bella Cavalla yet, but I have outlined the possibilities below and as ever, please get in touch if you have any questions.
Bella Cavalla made a nice debut at Fontwell. She could have surprised us by finishing closer and thus stamping herself as potentially top class, but in the absence of that, we could not have asked for much more than for her to show a great attitude and to gallop all the way to the line.
If she races with that kind of enthusiasm throughout her career and stays injury-free, then she looks likely to win races once running in handicaps against horses of similar ability.
The all-important “day after” update from Neil was very positive in that Bella seemed in really good order. She has been schooling over hurdles and I will firm on her next race with Neil in the next couple of days. This could be as early as next Saturday at Wincanton and there are other options in the following days.

Stryder was positively bouncing when he returned to the gallops, but unfortunately, he promptly trod on a stone and bruised his foot which meant another few days off!
That is now sorted and he has also had regular sessions on the theraplate. We have also been working on some other options that will hopefully help him as we move forward.
Because of the bruised foot, the earliest he might run again is the 24th of February at Chelmsford, but there are options after that if he needs a few extra days.

The latest episode of Inside The Rails launched on 1st February and features an interview with Paul Johnson the CEO of the National Trainers Federation. Paul has worked in many areas of the industry and I was reassured that someone like him is in a senior position in the industry as he seemed to be wanting to work for the better of the sport as a whole rather than just focussing on his area of responsibility.

Michael Attwater had a winner on the 29th of January. Smasher looked determined to lug left into the back of his rival in the home straight and jockey Paddy Bradley had to work hard to keep him straight. Once he got this done though, Smasher ran on really well to record a 2nd consecutive win.
Neil Mulholland got a winner on the board on 2nd February. Hobbs Delight winning at Southwell.
We ended the period with a very good day for Michael yesterday. At Chelmsford, Cabeza De Llave boosted Stryder’s form when he got up to narrowly win and there was a double on the day as My Turn Now proved to relish the drop back to 5f as she powered away to win well at Wolverhampton.
