BG Racing – Update 11-08-22
My wife and I spent 10 days up at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. I really had not seen much of Birmingham in the past and I thought that the city centre had some really nice areas. They have a series of statues of the games’ mascot around the city and we spent a couple of hours walking around a route between them which meant that we saw various squares and canals and it was a very pleasant afternoon in the city. We saw cricket at Edgbaston, rugby 7s at Coventry Stadium, badminton at the NEC, basketball 3×3 in the city centre, hockey at the University and nearly all of the sessions of the Athletics at the Alexander Stadium. We had a brilliant time and if you ever get the chance to attend multi-sport games, I would recommend it.
I had a bit of time whilst away to keep up with things but did not manage to get a news update onto the website! You have not missed anything though as neither horse was ready to race and the ground would have been too firm even if they had been!
Below I have covered:
1 – Dynamic Kate
2 – Far Too Beautiful
3 – Inside The Rails
4 – Runners From Our Stables
If this update gets you interested in ownership, then I would love to hear from you. Click here for details of shareholder benefits and information on how to get involved.
Dynamic Kate is doing very well now and Neil Mulholland is very happy with her. She is ready to run when jump racing restarts and she will receive an entry tomorrow to run at Fontwell next Thursday. After that, the options are Worcester on 23rd August and Fontwell again on the 4th of September. We will see if she is likely to make the field at Fontwell and then we will see whether we get a bit of rain next week as we would prefer not to see any “good to firm” in the going description if we are going to run.
It is good news that we seem to be all systems go with her. It will be disappointing that we cannot have Adam Wedge riding though as his injury will keep him out longer than Kate’s has kept her off the track.
More good news is that Far Too Beautiful also seems to be going much better. She is definitely dependent on the ground in terms of her next race as we would want some softer going and may not see that for a while and there are not many suitable race options for her either in the coming weeks.
For this reason we may look at trying her over hurdles in the coming months. If she handles hurdling then it opens up more options should we renew our lease as obviously there is a longer period when softer conditions prevail over hurdles.
We launched the August episode of Inside The Rails at the start of the month with an interview with Betfair founder and leading breeder, Andrew Black.
You can find this by searching for Inside The Rails on Google, Apple, Spotify or Amazon podcasts (or anywhere else you listen to podcasts).
As always, if you can recommend the podcast to anyone you know that might be interested, that would be appreciated.
There was a nice winner for Neil Mulholland back on the 25th of July when Ragamuffin won at Newton Abbot. There was no joy in the following days for Rookie Trainer, Hobbs Joy, Girlofmydreams, First Quest or True Romance although the latter was 3rd.
Michael Attwater also had a string of unplaced runners at the end of July when Gold Haze, Ard Up, Miss Shirley and Rhubarb Bikini all missed the frame.
Neil suffered disappointment at the Galway Festival when Exelerator Express was given no chance as A Wave of the Sea fell in front of him and he was brought down. He also had Heavey unplaced that day at Perth, but Ike Sport ran well to finish 2nd.
Neil went into the jump racing break with unplaced runs from Norman Kindhu, Putalinethroughit and Vis A Vis, the latter running on the flat.
Concierge, My Joker and Kingston Kurrajong all had unplaced runs for Michael but the month of July ended well when Big Time Maybe was 4th and in the same race, Real Estate just missed out on passing the post first, but later was awarded the race by the stewards due to interference.
August strated for Michael with Vandad, Beauen Arrows and Gavlar all unplaced, but things improved significantly 24 hours later when Michael was a nose away from having a win double. Street Parade lost in a photo and Bear To Dream defied her handicap mark to win again which was great to see.
Concierge, Minhaaj, Ard Up, Lothian, Thismydream, Battle Point, Cappananty Con and Mary of Modena all had unplaced runs but the period ended with another winner for Michael when Ajrad improved on his previous run to win at Salisbury. Unfortunately, Nordic Glory completely blew the start later on the card and gave his rivals 20 lengths start which he was never going to make up in a 5f race!
