BG Racing – Update 18-06-24
Another “weekly” update, two weeks after the last one! It was a busy fortnight with Bella Cavalla running at Southwell and my business networking event taking place at Lingfield last Monday.
The Lingfield event went very well and we had a thoroughly enjoyable day before heading up to Southwell the following morning. That was not quite as successful as the ground was softer than expected and Bella Cavalla was unable to show her best.
Both horses seem in good order though and hopefully will be running (and winning?) over the summer.
I must admit that it was a little bit of a disappointing result for Bella Cavalla last week, but the one thing that did not occur to any of us was that the ground would be very soft! In the run-up to the race, the course stated that they were watering the course to aim to provide ground on the easy side of good. Some rain the day before racing, meant that they were describing the ground as good, good to soft in places, so it was a surprise when our jockey, Brendan Powell, confirmed that Bella Cavalla had found it too soft after she finished 5th in her race. Brendan felt that the ground was good to soft all over and even softer than that in some areas and he confirmed that Bella Cavalla had just not performed as well as she had last time and felt that this could be attributed to the difference in the ground.
The good news is that she seems fine after the race and when I spoke to trainer, Neil Mulholland, he was pretty confident that she should bounce back as the summer progresses.
That brings me on to what to do regarding ownership of her and my plan is to write to all her shareholders later this week to get a gauge of interest in renewing ahead of the 30th June renewal, as I need to make sure that I have sufficient interest if I am going to commit to another year.
And with that in mind, if anyone else would like to join her journey, then now would be a perfect time to do so! A 2% share will be £754 for the year from 1st July to 30th June 2025 and can be paid monthly. There are discounted rates for 5% and 10% shareholders as well, please contact me for details.
Stryder is fine and working well at Epsom.
His next target race is next Monday at Bath and an entry for this is being made today.
I had a group of 14 for my networking and racing event at Lingfield last week and after about an hour chatting about our businesses and exchanging contact information, we enjoyed an excellent lunch in our box and then settled in for an afternoon at the races.
I previewed the card and managed to identify several winners that I mentioned as having a chance, but none of them were my final selection. As a result, several of the attendees ended up doing far better with their bets than I did and I was grateful when the one I highlighted as my best bet of the day managed to win the last race to save me from total humiliation!
The feedback from the event was however really positive despite the poor tipping and I will probably try to get another one booked for later in the year.

I have recently taken over the production of the podcast and next month will be the first one I record, edit and publish myself. That should be fun!
There was a nice winner for Neil Mulholland at Southwell back on 4th June when Hell Hound battled gamely to hold off challenges from behind and win on his hurdles debut.
The next winner came on Wednesday 12th when Neil’s Earth Cry ditched his reputation as a 2nd place specialist by winning his first race. He stayed well up the hill to pull away after the last at Fontwell.
Two days later Broomfields Cave managed to deliver another winner for Neil when he prevailed by a neck to win his 2nd start over fences in what looked like a competitive race.
Neil added a 4th winner in the last fortnight when Al Sayah showed her fine recent hurdles form on the flat, pulling away in the last furlong to win well at Bath.
Alongside those four winners, Neil has continued his forays across to Jersey and has also had plenty of winners there! After his three winners at their last meeting on 2nd June, Neil was back there last Friday and added two more winners when Mini Mildred and Man of the Sea were both victorious.
