BG Racing – Update 20-12-22
Well that turned into a busier week than I thought it would!
After Far Too Beautiful ran a much better race in her 2nd run over hurdles, we were all looking forward to the future when it was discovered that she had a tendon injury and would not be able to race for twelve months.
That resulted in a lot of communications and alongside all of that, I managed to buy a new horse and run a Christmas stable visit.

I still need to get hold of shareholders that I did not hear from in response to my initial renewal email. I got sidetracked with everything else last week!
I do still have plenty of shares available though at £351 for a 1% share. They cover all costs to 31st October next year and she is in great form right now. We are all hoping that she will resume her recent winning ways in the Spring.

A sad week for Far Too Beautiful when a scan of her leg showed a tendon injury and she will need to be out of racing for 12 months. She is leased and as a result of this she will be returned to her owner.
The good news is that she is not lame and will probably make a full recovery from this and be able to race again but her owner will need to decide whether he feels that she is a good enough prospect to wait for this or whether he wishes to move her on or retire her.
If she does not race, then the good news is that she has a lovely temperament and I am sure she would make a lovely riding horse for someone and she would not need as long a rehabilitation period if she was not racing.
The injury manifested itself in a very unusual way compared to normal tendon injuries which meant that it was a bit of a surprise diagnosis, but the good news is that Far Too Beautiful seems comfortable and happy and it was good to see her to say goodbye when we had the Christmas event at the stables on Saturday.
After some intensive research, we managed to acquire a new horse, Sajwaan, at a Tattersalls online auction last week.
With hindsight, it is pretty amazing that we secured him for only 1200 guineas as it is hard to understand why there was so little interest in him. We saw him at Michael’s on Saturday and he looked fit and well. His previous yard has confirmed that he has been cantering and working right up to the sale and he should be ready to roll.
He was out trotting for the first time this week. The intention is to run him on the all-weather through the winter and then freshen him up in late spring and bring him back for a summer turf campaign and autumn / winter back on the all-weather. The purchase is low risk in that if he does not prove to be a long-term prospect, we will almost certainly get at least what we paid for him in a future sale or even as a riding horse!
I have been looking at costs and will price him up at £325 for a 1% share. This allows for him to race 10-12 times over the year as he is a sprinter and should be able to run regularly. The costs include the purchase of shareholding (with rights to the same share of any future sale) along with all training fees to the end of 2023. I accept installment payments and there are discounts for 5% and 10% purchases. Please get in touch if you would like to find out more.
A successful visit to the stables on Saturday morning which we followed up with brunch at The Olive Tree restaurant at Ashtead Park Garden Centre. First up was a viewing of Sajwaan, the new BG Racing horse. He has not learned to like carrots yet, but seemed fond of a polo or three!
He was brought out into the yard and we then went to see him in his box.
We then went to see Far Too Beautiful and she did enjoy some carrots. It was then off to the gallops to see a few of the horses working before we headed back to the yard for coffee and then on to the restaurant for brunch. The latest Inside The Rails podcast with Francesca Cumani from ITV Racing has received some good reviews and last week we recorded the next one when we were joined by Racing TV’s Frankie Foster.
Frankie is a former Love Island contestant who now does a lot of racecourse reporting on Racing TV’s social media channels. Frankie has interviewed me a few times this year at the various ownership days where I have had a BG Racing stand and it was good to turn the tables and find out his story. The episode will launch on 1st January.

This will not take long this week!
Last Monday, Cappananty Con finished 4th for Michael Attwater who saw Breguet Boy go one better finishing 3rd. Neil Mulholland’s runner Chelsea Annie, faired less well and was unplaced.
There was a winner for Neil on Tuesday though when True Romance took his recent good hurdles form back to the all-weather.
We had no runners on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday though so it was a quiet week for our yards and pretty much everyone else with most of the racing frozen off!
