There were eight of us at Chelmsford with myself, Rainer, Chris, Dave, Glenys, Tony, John and Christine in attendance. It was unseasonably cold and very windy all afternoon which did not make for a great afternoon out!
We were in the 4.00pm race. Stephen and Aaron had saddled Far Too Beautiful in the stables to keep her calm, so after a couple of laps of the pre-parade ring, we headed into the paddock.
Far Too Beautiful was very calm pre-race and travelled down to the start well and loaded into the stalls with no fuss.
This race was probably her worst start to date, but after a push from William she soon got to the front and moved across to the inside rail. Once there, she settled really well and looked very comfortable in front. She passed the post the first time in front and headed into the last mile going well. She was doing everything William asked and with a half-mile to go, she seemed to have one or two starting to get some pressure. William gave her a shake of the reins at the three-pole but within a half furlong he was needing to get more vigorous and she was in a close 4th but going the wrong way as they straightened for home.
They ran away from her in the last two furlongs and she passed the furlong pole well adrift. The head-on shot showed that she was looking unbalanced in the last couple of furlongs which could have been tiredness or could have been something troubling her.
Stephen felt that Far Too Beautiful had looked lame at the end of the race but nothing came to light subsequently.
