With it being a late decision to run here, only a small group of owners were able to attend the evening meeting at Chelmsford.  Phil was joined on the night by Cathy, Lawrence and two former members of the Oscara Dara owners group, Tony and Vicki Garton.  Chelmsford City racecourse is a strange place.  It is nowhere near Chelmsford and looks a bit like it has been plonked in a field.  That does mean that there is plenty of space to move around and it is all quite modern.  The viewing angles are however a bit strange as the stand is in the centre of the course and block the view of the back straight completely.

Ours was the last on the card again so plenty of time for us to hang out in the Owners and Trainers bar.

When eventually our time came around we headed down to watch The Way You Dance get saddled up.  It was soon off to the paddock to meet John Egan our jockey.  Robert Winston was unavailable on this occasion so Neil had booked John to ride for us.  John seemed a good guy and we discussed riding instructions.

In the race, TWYD hit his first “flat spot” around half a mile in which resulted in him losing a couple of places.  He was well placed in 5th early but this left him eighth which was further back than ideal, but he looked comfortable until the second circuit when he started to struggle again with more than half a mile to go.  On urging from John, he picked up the bit again though and moved through runners around the home turn, before just not quite finishing as well as we would have hoped and surrendering third place right on the line much to the frustration of all the shareholders with each way bets!

A much better effort, but one that left us wondering whether he could have finished a couple of places further forward!
