Post Race Video Report from the Course

At last!  After a long and sometimes frustrating season, we were back in the winners enclosure and it was The Way You Dance’s most comprehensive victory.  Stepping up to three miles was a step into the unknown, but it would appear that the increase in distance was what he has needed!

Most shareholders could not make it to Fakenham for the race and so Phil & Lawrence were joined by Phil’s cousin Heath and his partner Lou, who wanted to see what it was like to be a racehorse owner.

Noel Fehily was due to ride, but was unwell and Neil booked Sam Twiston-Davies to take the mount on The Way You Dance.  Fakenham is a small track (just under a mile round) and slightly undulating.  It seems pretty popular as there was a good crowd for a midweek meeting.

Our race was at 3.10 and we made our way to the paddock to see the horse and to meet with Sam.  Sam had spoken to Neil and outlined the plan (which he went on to execute perfectly) to settle TWYD just off the pace and wide enough to avoid the churned up ground on the inside of the bends.  He then would bring him through over from the third last and see how he went from there.

It turned out he went pretty well from there and was travelling clearly the best turning for home.  Sam never had to use the whip as The Way You Dance powered clear winning by 5 lengths and we were off to the winners enclosure for a debrief.  After the trophy presentation from the sponsor, we were taken by the racecourse chairman and his wife to the winners room where we were offered champagne and a chance to watch a replay of our race.  Then it was back to the Owners and Trainers Bar for a spot of reflection on a brilliant afternoon!

Lawrence and I just about remembered to film the post race video before daylight totally disappeared and then four very happy folk headed for their respective homes!
