Post Race Video Report from the Course

You have to wonder what else could go wrong for The Way You Dance this season, but thankfully he came back in one piece having been badly hampered.

A small group of owners were at Kempton with Cathy, Rory, Peter and Lawrence joining Phil at the meeting.  Our race was last on the card and we headed out to the pre parade area to see Liz Harrington and Shannon saddle up The Way You Dance.  We then moved into the paddock to meet with our jockey Robert Winston who had ridden for us at Goodwood and Wolverhampton.

We were optimistic for a good run and told Robert to ride his own race depending on the conditions but we anticipated this would involve him deciding whether to stay in 2nd or 3rd or to go to the front, not what he should do if stuck behind the whole field!  A furlong into the race he was completely squeezed out and forced right back to the rear of field.  Robert reported that at that point he decided to sit quietly to give The Way You Dance a chance to regain his confidence and to see if he came back into contention, but nothing was coming from behind that evening and our race was over soon after it had started!

In fairness to the horse, Robert reported that he galloped throughout the race and the distance was no problem to him, it was just the fact that he was so badly hampered early on that stopped him from challenging.  Robert actually thought that the lack of room meant he was actually lucky not to fall.  Fortunately The Way You Dance was showing no ill effects after the race or the following day and this race is one we need to put a line through a move on!
