After a winter break we brought The Way You Dance to Lingfield for a final gallop ahead of his summer campaign.  The trip was twelve furlongs which was further than his previous all weather successes, but there were no suitable shorter races available.

A Saturday afternoon card at Lingfield allowed several of the group to make the trip with Phil, Sarah, Cath, Peter, Alan and his dad, Lawrence, Steph and Ron in attendance.

It was not a day for the favourites as all were beaten meaning that there was limited success for the group.  Steph managed to find a 33-1 winner while Lawrence somehow backed the first three winners, but there was not much success elsewhere.

TWYD had come to the races with his lad and Liz Harrington from Neil’s yard and after the penultimate race, we headed over to meet them in the pre parade ring.  Then it was down to the paddock to meet Liam Keniry who rode TWYD last time he raced on the all weather.

Once on the track, TWYD ran a nice race, Liam reported that he had travelled well throughout the race and turning into the home straight he felt that he had a good chance to get involved in the finish. Unfortunately, he felt that TWYD possibly does not stay 12 furlongs as he did not finish the race as strongly as Liam had hoped.  He felt that the horse was plenty fit enough and it was just the distance that found him out.

With hindsight, this is perhaps not such a surprise, as normally a horse that stays 12 furlongs on the flat will stay at least 20 furlongs over jumps and TWYD struggled at that trip last season.

He was only beaten around two lengths and when Neil called after the race, he was very pleased with the performance.
