There were four of us up at Nottingham with my sister Cath and Nigel travelling up with me and Lawrence met us there. The weather was excellent and the ground had dried back to good to soft by the first race. There is a nice owners suite on the first floor of the grandstand with a terrace where owners can sit outside and we took advantage of that.
We were in race three and after race two we headed over to the saddling area where Stephen, Michael’s travelling head lad met us. Siobhan was also at the course to lead Far Too Beautiful up.
We moved through to the paddock where we were joined by our jockey Ray Dawson. Far Too Beautiful was very calm pre-race and travelled down to the start well and loaded into the stalls with no fuss. When the gates opened, she was smartly away and despite getting a little bump, she was in good position upsides the leader as they passed us with a circuit to run. The pace may not have been strong as several rivals moved up passed her down the back and settled themselves on the heels of the leader and that meant that she started the turn for home in around 6th place. She was travelling well though and moved to 2nd with a couple of furlongs to go, but then disappointingly succumbed to a few from behind as she dropped back to finish 6th.
We headed over to the unsaddling area where Ray reported that he thought that she had stayed well but had not been able to go with others when they went half a stride faster in the straight. He said that he felt she could make the running if we wished and that she would benefit from a strong early pace.
This was not a bad run, but it was not a great one either, it is possible that she did not quite stay the trip at her current stage of development. She will be a bigger stronger filly next year, so she still has some development to come.
