A quick return to action for a third run over hurdles necessary to get a handicap rating.

We decided to experiment on trip to take a look over two and a half miles to see how well The Way You Dance stayed.  Not many of our group decided to make the trip to Uttoxeter with Laurence making his way up from Kent, to join Sarah, Cathy and Peter who traveled up from Surrey  via Birmingham International to pick Phil up from the train on the way up!

Our race was the first of the day and despite the ground being softer than ideal, with a small field, conversation with Neil did turn to the fact that if The Way You Dance enjoyed the extra distance, then a win could be very much on the cards.

Sean Corby was having his first UK ride over jumps for us and it was not long before he was joining us in the paddock.  Photos taken and riding instructions issued, it was off to the track for The Way You Dance and off to the viewing area for us.  Uttoxeter supply a hospitality box for connections directly opposite the big screen and we settled in for our race.

There was not much pace early and Sean did a nice job settling TWYD is 3rd place.  He hurdled fluently early on and traveled well.  The pace picked up on the second circuit and as they turned for home, Sean was as confident as anyone and was arguably travelling the best.  At the third last hurdle TWYD jumped to a narrow lead despite a slightly less fluent jump.  The feared tiredness began to kick in though as the trip and ground took their toll.  At two out there were four in a line, but TWYD knocked the flight to the ground losing some momentum and starting to fade.  Unfortunately he looked held in 4th at the last when he stumbled with what looked a tired jump.

Sean looked after him on the run in and held onto 4th and another finish in the money.

Sean’s report was that TWYD had noticeably tired in the home straight, but otherwise he was very happy with the run.  Neil was also very happy feeling that we had only learnt things from this run without doing any damage at all to our longer terms plans.

Handicap marks are allocated on Tuesday and it will be interested to see what level TWYD is rated.  He will be given a short break now and brought back for a handicap debut in three weeks or so.

Neil reported that TWYD was totally sound and happy the morning after the race so we look forward to our next run.
