Weekly Update 01-06-21

It has been a couple of week’s since my last full update and what a couple of weeks it has been.  I must admit that I am still a bit on Cloud Nine after the brilliant debut win for Far Too Beautiful who has given us loads to look forward to for the summer.  We did have a less successful outing for Dynamic Kate and I have been trying to keep up despite being on holiday for a week.

The win of Far Too Beautiful prompted a lot of interest in BG Racing which was brilliant and I have welcomed many new shareholders in the last fortnight!

In this week’s update, I will cover:
1 – Racing News
2 – Horse Updates & Running Plans
3 – Inside The Rails & New Racing Film
4 – News From Our Stables

Racing News

Racing seems to really be swinging back into life with spectators back on course and announcements of injections of additional prizemoney from racecourses who are clearly getting more optimistic with the return of paying customers.

This weekend sees the Oaks and the Derby being run on Epsom Downs.  The English Guineas winners have both been beaten subsequently so it will be good to see if any superstars come out of this weekend’s classics.

Our Horses Update

Dynamic Kate

As you may have seen, Dynamic Kate was 4th at Fakenham which was a bit disappointing.  She is fine however and recovering from her race well.

She got a drop of 2lb to 77 when the new handicap ratings were issued today.  We will probably be able to start looking for races from the middle of the month with a race at Uttoxeter on the 16th looking like the first decent option.  We might struggle to get her into races again, but we will do what we can and run wherever we can get her into a suitable race.

Whilst Kate’s Fakenham run was disappointing, I think we have to treat that as a day when nothing went right.  It was great to get nine shareholders to the races despite the result.  I am far from convinced that the track was totally to blame as Taunton is plenty tight enough and she was fine there, but it could have been a contributor and Kate was never well-positioned in the race and did not show the level she did the time before.  I would hope and expect that she will leave that run behind in her next couple of races.

The good news is that she did win another very modest amount of prize money for shareholders and with hopefully some more successful days to come over the summer, shares are still available at £260 per 1% share covering all costs to 31st October 2021, with discounts for 5% and 10% purchases.

Far Too Beautiful

The debut of Far Too Beautiful was as brilliant as it was unexpected and now all involved are really looking forward to see where she can go from here.  She is fine and has come out of her debut run really well, so much so that we have already started looking at next race options.  We were considering entering a conditions race at Leicester next Monday, but it has attracted some top-class horses and we have decided to wait for a less competitive option and will look at the races at Haydock and Kempton on 9th June which need to be entered on Thursday.

It was great to get 15 shareholders down at Lingfield last time and hopefully, some of her new shareholders will get to see her in action in the coming weeks.  I do have a few shares still available if anyone wants to join the fun!

All shareholders receive weekly updates, stable visits, owners badges when the horse runs and your share of prizemoney.  You can contact me via the website contact page if you want any more information and I will be very happy to correspond by email or schedule a call.

Inside The Rails & A New Film

This Friday sees the launch of Dream Horse, a film that tells the true story of Dream Alliance, a horse that won the Welsh Grand National.  It is a real feel-good story and worth trying to see if you get the chance.  We were delighted to get a scoop when Dream Horse’s Bafta-winning Director, Euros Lynn, agreed to join us on the latest Inside The Rails podcast which went live last week.  Please give the podcast a listen if you have not already done so and if you enjoy it, please tell someone else!

From The Stables

The period got off to a flyer when The Wicket Chicken won for Neil at Stratford on Sunday 16th.  She stayed on well to outbattle a rival on the run-in and record another winner to maintain Neil’s fine start to the season.  On Monday, Maliboo was unplaced at Ffos Las, where  Neil’s other runner, Neachells Bridge was 3rd.  Neil’s last runner, Emanate was beaten 20 lengths at Leicester but that was enough to pass the post in 3rd, so an each-way bet at 300-1 would have been pretty rewarding!

Michael’s Big Time Maybe was unplaced in the opener at Brighton the next day and but his next runner was Far Too Beautiful at Lingfield two days later and we all know what the result of that race was!  Sadly his next runner, Blue Cable, could not repeat the win the following day though, finishing unplaced.

Neil was back in action on Saturday 22nd when Man of the Sea was unplaced at Stratford.  Music Major was unplaced for Michael at Lingfield, but his other runner, Mary of Modena, ran OK to be 3rd in a small field on debut.

Sunday saw Dynamic Kate finish 4th and the next runners were on Tuesday when Gavlar put in an improved performance to be 3rd at Lingfield for Michael.  His other two runners were in the same race where Real Estate was well-beaten, but Vandad led inside the final furlong before being collared late on by a fast finisher and ending up 2nd.

Green or Black was unplaced for Neil the following day, but Sidcot Swallet ran a cracker for Michael, only beaten a head by the favourite at a starting price of 50-1.  A nice return for each-way backers, who missed out on a bumper payday by a pretty narrow margin.

Putting Green was unplaced for Neil on Thursday and Street Parade, Kingston Kurrajong and Fujaira King were also unplaced for Michael on Friday.

Concierge suffered the same fate on Saturday but Neil was back in the winners when Brief Times ran a cracker to win the bumper at Ffos Las.

Sunday saw Magical Thomas, Test Ride and Master Burbidge unplaced at Fontwell and Excelerator Express unplaced at Uttoxeter but back at Fontwell, Carolines Charm recorded another win for Neil.  Yesterday, Neil had no joy as The Wicket Chicken was unplaced at Cartmel and Libbdan, Just Henny, Harbour Force and Frau Georgia were all unplaced at Huntingdon.  Things went much better for Michael though as he recorded a 12-1 winner when Delegate The Lady relished the return to the all-weather surface at Chelmsford.
