Weekly Update 07-02-22

What a weekend of racing we just saw at Leopardstown.  If you have not seen the action, you should watch some of the race replays.  Honeysuckle, Facile Vega, Gallopin Des Champs and Sir Gerhard were all very impressive and are sure to be back in action at Cheltenham.  BG Racing did not have quite the same level of on the track success last weekend when Joey’s Gift was pulled up at Fontwell and there is more on that below.

I did not get to Neil Mulholland’s last week but I will try to get down there next week if I can.  I am always keen to organise events for BG Racing shareholders and we are having another morning at Michael Attwater’s next week and we have a Cheltenham Preview Zoom booked.

Below I will cover:
1 – Dynamic Kate
2 – Far Too Beautiful
3 – Inside The Rails
4 – Gambling Review
5 – Runners From Our Stables

If this update gets you interested in ownership, then I would love to hear from you.  Click here for details of shareholder benefits and information on how to get involved.

Dynamic Kate

As you will be aware, Dynamic Kate is back in the main yard and has started training again.  She is still a long way from full fitness, but all is still on track. I am going to try to get over to the yard one day next week.

I have shares of Kate available to purchase and these run for the period to 31st October 2022.  They are priced at £310 for a 1% share with discounted rates for 5% and 10% purchases.

She has been in the first four in all four of her recent races and she will hopefully pick up where she left off when she gets back on the racecourse in the Spring.

Far Too Beautiful

Far Too Beautiful is at Michael’s yard in Epsom and progressing fine although she is only just starting her journey to race fitness.

She will build up gradually but is on target to race at the start of the flat turf season when hopefully the ground will be ideal for her.

I have shares available at a cost of £273 per 1% share covering the period to 31st December 2022.  Please contact me via the contact page if you would like more information.

Inside The Rails

The latest episode of Inside The Rails featuring an interview with Lee Mottershead from the Racing Post is out now.  Lee was really interesting and it is a good listen.  You can find us at https://podfollow.com/inside-the-rails.  If you can recommend the podcast to friends that may be interested, that would be really appreciated as well.

Gambling Review

As mentioned last week, a white paper is due to be produced soon which could have a significant impact on racing and recreational betting.  Problem gambling is something that everyone wants to be addressed, but there is a chance that regulation could go too far and this could impact on racing prize money which is dependent on gambling.  I feel that it is possible that many people who enjoy betting for fun, will get caught up in measures designed to help those who have a gambling problem.  You may have a very different view on this and that is absolutely fine, but if it is something that you find concerning, then Racing TV has put together an easy tool allowing you to automatically create an email to express your concern to your MP.  If you would want to do this, Click This Link, enter your postcode to find your MP, type in your name and press send. It takes 30 seconds and might just help.

Runners From Our Stables

A successful week for our trainers.  On Thursday 27th January, Vis A Vis was unable to make the frame for Neil at Newcastle, but Malinas Island provided plenty of compensation at Wetherby to deliver Neil’s first winner for over two weeks which was great to see.  A second winner was not long coming as on Friday, Full of Surprises was unplaced at Doncaster and neither Irish Odyssey nor Novis Adventus could land a blow at Huntingdon, but new tactics seemed to suit Maliboo and she crept into the race and took the lead late on to provide Neil with another winner.  For Michael, Mary of Modena and Rules of Order were unplaced, but Lothian ran well to finish a close-up third.  Rhubarb Bikini downed tools when he lost the lead and dropped right away.

On Saturday 29th, Cappananty Con was never a factor at Lingfield, but then Michael’s form changed in style at Kempton in the evening.  Jason Watson made a fast move down the outside to send Savoy Brown into 2nd to chase the odds on favourite and he took it up turning for home before battling on well to repel the rallying favourite and others from behind.  It was great to see Michael break his barren run.  The next day, Watergrange Jack ran really well for Neil but found one too good and was 2nd in the race where Joey’s Gift was pulled up.

After no Monday runners, Blumen Glory was unable to make the frame at Ffos Las but Rock on Rita travelled well throughout the race at Ffos Las and stayed on really well to win her race to deliver a third winner in a few days for Neil.  On Wednesday, his Concrete King travelled well into the race, but could not keep tabs on the front three in the home straight.  He still ran a good race and inherited third when one fell at the last flight.

Last Thursday, Delagate The Lady ran OK and stayed on well at the end but she was just behind the placed horses for Michael at Southwell.  Glenview Beauty was unplaced at Wincanton for Neil, but on Friday we had a cracking end to the week with both our trainers recording a winner.  Maliboo was able to follow up her previous win with another at Catterick for Neil, but La Cavsa Nostra had a horse fall right in front of him and did really well to stay on his feet.  He lost a lot of ground and after a long absence, a hard race was the last thing he needed so he jumped several more fences but was then pulled up.  Michael enjoyed a good afternoon at Lingfield.  Maahi Ve looked like she “bumped into one” as she “won” the main race, but the winner was three or four lengths ahead and looked comfortable!  It was a nice run though and each-way bets were rewarded at a decent price.  After that, Michael’s four runners in the same race were reduced to three when Miss Shirley was withdrawn before the start.  Ard Up was never a factor and did not get competitive but My Joker flew home at a massive price to grab a very nice third-placed finish.  One of the two he was trying to run down however was Nordic Glory.  From a wideish draw, he got a perfect spot two wide just behind the leaders and that allowed him to get into stride in the straight and he ended up winning with possibly a bit in hand, with Michael’s runners appearing to be hitting some form.

On Saturday, our one stable runner was Garincha who finished 3rd for Neil, but with non-runners, this was not a paying place and there were no runners from the yards on Sunday.
