Racing News

What a pair of stories from the Oaks and Derby at Epsom!

I was delighted to see the 50-1 shot that I backed each way in the Oaks win her race by a couple of lengths, but unfortunately, that race was not the same race that the Oaks winner was in!

Snowfall went clear in the last couple of furlongs and ended up winning by a record distance and she looks a possible superstar for all the big races later this season.  Frankie Dettori was onboard and won his second classic this season from only a handful of rides.

It was also interesting that the two horses that got mixed up last year and carried the wrong jockeys and numbers in a race have both gone on to win classics, Mother Earth in the Guineas and Snowfall in the Oaks.

There was another great story in the Derby.

Adam Kirby was due to ride John Leeper in the Derby a race that someone like Adam would not always get a ride in.  A few days before the race when it became clear that Frankie Dettori did not have a ride, Adam was “jocked off” John Leeper as Dettori was booked to ride.

Adam had also been asked by trainer Charlie Appleby to ride Adayar but had already committed to John Leeper and wanted to honour that commitment.  Charlie Appleby booked Oisin Murphy instead, but showed loyalty to Kirby when he became available and offered him the ride again.

In a fairytale finish to the story, Adayar ended up winning the Derby giving Adam his first Derby winner.

Our Horses Update

Dynamic Kate

Neil Mulholland has confirmed that Dynamic Kate has been fine and has recovered well from her Fakenham run and he is keen to enter her to run at Uttoxeter on Wednesday 16th June as he feels that this is a nice flat and galloping track that will suit her.  We will make this entry later this week as long as there are no problems before then.

Hopefully there will be some successful days to come over the summer, shares are still available at £260 per 1% share covering all costs to 31st October 2021, with discounts for 5% and 10% purchases.

Far Too Beautiful

I went up to the stables earlier in the week to see Far Too Beautiful who is doing well.  We decided not to enter her at Leicester this week as the quality of the opposition was massively tough and it did not look like the right option for her.  She was entered for two novice events on Wednesday at Haydock and at Kempton Park, but this morning we also decided to bypass these in favour of a novice race at Chepstow on Friday.

Her debut was as brilliant as it was unexpected and now all involved are really looking forward to seeing where she can go from here.  She is fine and has come out of her debut run really well.

I do have a few shares still available if anyone wants to join the fun!

All shareholders receive weekly updates, stable visits, owners badges when the horse runs and your share of prizemoney.  You can contact me via the website contact page if you want any more information and I will be very happy to correspond by email or schedule a call.

Inside The Rails & A New Film

Has anyone seen Dream Horse yet?  Don’t forget that we interviewed the film’s director Euros Lynn on the latest Inside The Rails podcast which went live last week.  Please give the podcast a listen if you have not already done so and if you enjoy it, please tell someone else!  Access the podcast here: https://podfollow.com/inside-the-rails

From The Stables

Last Tuesday, Nina’s Field ran OK for Neil at Leicester finishing midfield. For Michael, Big Time Maybe and Something Lucky finished in the same order for the fourth time in two months and this time it was 1st and 3rd as Michael continued the fine form triggered by Far Too Beautiful’s win a couple of weeks ago. Big Time Maybe always looked to have things under control and it was a good win.

After no runners on Wednesday, Neil had four runners at Ffos Las on Thursday where Blumen Glory and Dream Machine were unplaced. Ragamuffin ran well to finish in 2nd in the same race as Dream Machine and No Worries showed some improvement to finish just outside the places.

Michael was busy on Friday at Goodwood. Rules of Order was unplaced and Physics managed to lose both front shoes and got completely unbalanced before Minhaaj finished midfield. Montaqem ran well but just missed the places at a big price.

We had no runners from our yards on Saturday.
