Weekly Update 18-10-21

In fundraising and fun terms, entering a team in last week’s charity golf day was a massive success, but in scoring terms, we did not fare so well!

It was straight into the car on Saturday for the long journey down to Ffos Las to watch Dynamic Kate run.  Nine hours travel time there and back, so at least it was punctuated by a decent run.

Below I will cover:

1 – Golf Day
2 – Dynamic Kate Update
3 – Far Too Beautiful Update
4 – Inside The Rails
5 – Runners From Our Stables

Charity Golf Day

We entered a BG Racing team at last Friday’s Dame Vera Lynn Childrens Charity Golf Day at Lingfield Park.  It was an overcast day, with some rain in the air, but it stayed largely dry through our round.  We did however find conditions tough.  It was pretty sticky underfoot and that made getting out of the rough very tricky and meant that ball striking had to be good to avoid problems.  I think it is fair to say that we were off the pace early as we all struggled with conditions, but it improved in the middle before ending a bit tamely.  We thought that our team score would put us mid-pack, so I must admit I was pretty amazed when at the presentations (after we had all tucked into a two-course lunch) we were announced as the last-place finishers!  On the upside that meant that we won hospitality for 4 at a Crawley Town game and Dave also beat the pro in one of the competitions and won a four-ball at Lingfield in the future.  Louise then won a raffle prize, so we did not leave empty-handed and over £4000 was raised for the charity which was great to see.

Our Horses Update

Dynamic Kate

Dynamic Kate ran really well on Saturday and travelled like the best horse in the race again before finishing 3rd and s she will win races when we get the right set of circumstances for her.

Sam Twiston-Davies rode for us and did a good job.  Going down the back straight for the last time, she started to pick off rivals and was certainly looking to be going the best of all as they came into the home straight looking poised to pick off the leaders.  Kate did not come under pressure until the 2nd last and if she had really winged the last, there was a chance that she could have got to the front on the run-in, but she landed a little flat-footed and Sam did not throw everything at her after that as she looked booked for 3rd and indeed finished in that position.

Sam confirmed that she is likely to always run well at this level and that she will win races when everything falls right for her.  Neil was happy with the race and suggested that it is a real positive that Kate continues to run well and that her turn will come in terms of getting her head in front.

We added a bit more prize money to the pot which is good.  Shareholding renews at the end of this month.  There is a chance that she could run again, but she may well need a break now until the ground starts to get better again in the Spring.

Far Too Beautiful

I popped up to Michael’s on Sunday morning.  Far Too Beautiful is back to form now and seems to be over her coughing.  She should be ready to run in about a week.  The issue this time of year is finding a suitable turf race, but the fact that she has dropped in the handicap has opened up another option.  There is a race at Leicester on the 25th which she has been  entered in.  The ground looks like it will be fine and the plan will be to run here if we can get her ready in time.

Inside The Rails

We are hoping to interview Rod Street from Great British Racing on the next podcast record which is booked for next week.

We are really trying to grow the podcast.  As part of that, I have set up a new Twitter account https://twitter.com/InsidetheRails with a Twitter handle of @InsidetheRails.  If you are a Twitter user, then following @InsidetheRails and perhaps liking and retweeting a few of our tweets would be really helpful in ensuring that we can grow our following.

The latest episode is part review of the first ten episodes and partly a look ahead and you can listen to it and all the previous episodes at https://podfollow.com/inside-the-rails.

Runners From Our Stables

There were no runners last Monday and on Tuesday we had a flying start to the week when Neil Mulholland’s two runners both won.  Hidden Depths won his first hurdle and Peltwell won her fifth race on the trot, bouncing back from her break in the same form that she went into it!  Neil got another good performance on Wednesday from Quarter Blue who finished 3rd at Kempton at 50-1, but Michael Attwater’s runners did not fare as well with Blue Cable down the field in the same race and Physics and Ard Up unplaced earlier on the card.

Harbour Force was unable to keep Neil’s string of great results going on Thursday and was unplaced at Wincanton whilst Cappananty Con and Bear to Dream both finished midfield in their races at Brighton for Michael.  On Friday, Maliboo finished 3rd and Cremant finished 2nd and continuing the progression, Lord Accord finished 1st.  Three more places for Neil including another winner.

Saturday did not deliver the results that we were hoping for though.  Neil had a lot of runners, but only Dynamic Kate (who was 3rd) was placed.  Novis Adventus was unplaced at Catterick and at Market Rasen, Winged Isle was also unplaced.  It was the same for Masterdream at Stratford.  At Ffos Las, Belle Na Ban and Hashtag Val failed to get competitive and Malinas Island ran well but ended up unplaced before the day finished with Solwara One taking a heavy fall.  Thankfully he seemed OK afterwards.

There were no runners from our yards on Sunday.
