Pre Race Video Report from the Course
A disappointing trip to Wolverhampton where expectations were high and yet we were ultimately left feeling very low.
A Saturday night meeting and (perhaps fortunately) only a small number of shareholders were able to travel. Only three were on course with Phil joined by Anita and Ray.
The Way You Dance had just had a promising run on unsuitable ground, was back at a more suitable trip on a course where he has won twice and finished 2nd in his three previous visits and being ridden by a jockey who had now got to know him better. With a field of 11 to guarantee a decent pace and a year to the day since his last win, it all seemed stacked up for a win which is why the result was so disappointing.
The crowd at Wolverhampton was bigger than on our previous visit and under lights, the evening had a nice atmosphere. The owners and trainers food offering was quite palatable and was enjoyed between the earlier races. Mid evening Phil sneaked away to the back of the stand to record a video for shareholders which was sent out via Facebook and before we knew it our race was upon us.
Liz Harrington was representing the stable and Dalpat had come along to lead up the horse. We moved from the pre parade ring to the main paddock to meet Robert Winston and issue our riding instructions and then it was off to get a viewing spot.
The race reports says “Tracked leaders, effort 3f out and kept on one pace in final furlong” and this was pretty accurate. The issue was summed up by Robert Winston straight away on dismount when he said “he was totally unsuited by the way the race panned out”. Robert managed to get The Way You Dance settled on the outside just off the leaders but despite the big field size, there was no early pace and Robert said that he did consider going to the front a mile out to force a true run race, but he was concerned that is this had now worked, he would have been in trouble for not following instructions. As you would expect off a slow pace, it turned into a sprint in the last three furlongs, which is not TWYD’s forte and whilst he was only beaten a total of three and a half lengths this was only good enough for 10th.
The frustration of horse racing hits again and it was a disappointed trip home for those in attendance.
